This condensed two‑day itinerary is ideal for travellers with limited time who still want to experience Tanzania’s wildlife highlights. Depart from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, home to vast elephant herds, baobab‑studded savannah and the wildlife‑rich Tarangire River. Overnight near the park, then descend into the Ngorongoro Crater on day two for a full‑day game drive inside the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera.
Begin with a morning game drive in Tarangire National Park, where ancient baobabs shade herds of elephants and the Tarangire River draws a variety of grazing animals. Look for lions stalking impala and colourful birds around the floodplains. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park before returning to your lodge for dinner.
On day two, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater early to maximise wildlife viewing. This 600‑metre deep volcanic bowl shelters over 25,000 animals including lion, elephant, buffalo, zebra and spotted hyena. Enjoy a full‑day crater floor drive with a picnic lunch before ascending to Arusha or the airport.
For the 2‑day northern circuit safari, the dry months (June–October) offer excellent game‑viewing as animals congregate around rivers. The shoulder seasons (December–March) are cooler and allow you to observe newborn calves in the crater.
Most nationalities can obtain a Tanzanian visa on arrival or via the official eVisa portal; apply at least one week before departure and carry USD cash for the fee.
